Winning End to League Season

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

With a shaky period in late March, Rovers were looking to take advantage of a favourable end of season schedule which gave them additional home games and matches against bottom half opposition.

In the end the team responded, despite a defeat in the month’s opening match, to finish the season on a high with four straight victories. This proved to be the top performance in the league for April, the second time this year that the club have taken the accolade – February was the other. (more…)

More Clarity Required for SFL Clubs

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Reports from last week’s Scottish Football League meeting suggest that the majority of clubs, including half of those in the first division, want a clearer idea of the financial choices before committing to more talks with the SPL. The two organisations will now wait for the SFA to arbitrate on the status of the SPL’s payment to the SFL. The key issue is whether the money is payable in full to the SFL or not.

The 22-8 vote in favour of stopping talks with the SPL makes any changes to the league structure remote this season but doesn’t rule out talks resuming after the arbitration decision.

Congratulations to John McGlynn and the team!

John McGlynnA fantastic day in the sun on Saturday, and a superb achievement for everyone involved in our win over the champions to guarantee our place in the play-offs. We’ve got a real challenge ahead of us whoever we come up against in the play-offs, but as James’ regular updates on the subject will prove, if we close out the regular season well we’ll be going into the play-offs as the form team and will surely be the team nobody wants to play.

Whatever happens, a big thank you is due to everyone at the club for turning around what looked like a pretty miserable season four or five months ago. You’ve done us all proud.

March Stats

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

After the whirlwind start to 2007 reality started to bite in March as Rovers dropped five points from a possible twelve and suffered the first defeat in two months. However gaining 1.75 points per game was still good enough for fourth best in the division and saw the team maintain their position in the playoff places.

As we hit the run-in it’s maybe worth looking at the likely finishing spots and looking for any trends that give us an idea of what to expect should we secure a playoff spot. (more…)
