Unthinkable

Raith Supporters Trust Board member Steven Lawther has written a book about our famous League Cup victory in 1994. “Unthinkable” tells the story of how the club went from playing in front of a few hundred people at the bottom of the old Second Division to the Premier Division and beating Celtic to lift the Coca Cola Cup.

It is packed full of stories and memories from former players and managers and even has a contribution from the Celtic captain Paul McStay whose penalty was saved by Rovers’ ‘keeper Scott Thomson. It also includes a foreword from crime writer Val McDermid. The book has been getting excellent reviews on Fantalk, where it has been described as a ‘must have’ for every Rovers’ fan.

It is priced £14.99 with all proceeds donated to the Trust to invest in the club. The book is available in Kirkcaldy Waterstones and from Amazon but if you can then please buy direct from Steven as the club will receive more money that way. He will be selling “Unthinkable” at every home game from the Trust table in the South Stand or you can contact him direct on steven@redcircle.org.uk to arrange delivery.

  1. A new book A Football Odyssey: For The Fans has recently been published and is an excellent read especially as Raith Rovers have a chapter about a fans view of them. I have been keeping an eye on both websites and have yet to see any mention of this book ! Surely a mention would be appropriate as one of your loyal fans took the time to tell her story.

P.S. The Hearts chapter is great as well .. From a Jambo and also a Raith fan as well !

  2. I would like to hear from any raith supporter if they have read this book yet or has the word not got out yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds interesting, I’ll check it out. A free copy to review on the site would go down a treat 😉

  4. I don’t know if you are aware that the club shop had some copies for sale just before Christmas. If there are none left let me know and a copy will be made available for you. A flier was sent to the trust as agreed with John Mainland.
P.S. a percentage of the royalties will go to the Rovers

Sean, you can order a copy of “Rovers Greats” from this website for £5 (click on the “Buy From Us” link at the top of the page). There’s also a fantastic book called “Always Next Season” by John Litster which was published a couple of years ago – it has details of every match from 1883 and lots of background information on players, managers, boardroom changes, etc. It’s sold out and apparently there are no plans to re-print it, but you might find a copy on eBay or on book collector’s websites. It is available as a PDF file on CD though: http://www.pmfc.co.uk/rrbooks.php
