Raith Trust look to “Reclaim the Rovers”

Raith Rovers supporters have taken a major step towards bringing the club under community control.

At a recent meeting, members of the Raith Trust unanimously supported a motion to fully explore the options for greater community ownership of the club.

Trust Chairman George Howie explained: “The membership of the Raith Trust believes that now is the time for the supporters of Raith Rovers to look at ways of reclaiming the club for the Rovers community. At the recent general meeting the Trust’s Board were strongly encouraged by members to look into the options for putting together a community based bid to acquire control of Raith Rovers.

“The Trust believes that for Raith Rovers to realise its full potential on the field of play it requires the support of the whole Raith Rovers community – whether it be supporters, local businesses or social enterprises.

“Equally for any community bid to be successful partnerships will have to be developed across the community.

“As a Trust we therefore want to speak to anybody with an interest in the club who can help realise the vision of Raith Rovers as a progressive, community football club which is competitive on the field of play within limited financial resources, is financially sound, and operates in a transparent and accountable manner.

“To this end we invite interested parties to contact the Trust to explore the way forward.

“The Trust is determined to take this matter forward in a professional and business-like manner and not to rush things. A lot of preparatory work has been done in recent weeks, including exploratory talks with club directors, and we feel that now is the time to find out what support is out there for a genuine community based bid for the club.”
